Your computer comes with an 'Emergency Recovery CD' for the purpose of recovering Microsoft Windows ME Operation System. It contains four options:

1. To recover Windows files only (CAB, INF etc).
   This option will recover certain important Windows files only, no user data files will be deleted or replaced.

2. Refresh and Initialize Windows OS.
   This option will recover the Windows ME operating system, your current registry files will be refreshed only. No data files will be removed. After performing this operation, you may need to reinstall your applications.

3. Recover Hard Drive without Format.
   This option will recover the Windows ME operating system, no data file will be removed. After performing this operation, you will likely need to reinstall your applications.

4. Format and Recover Hard Drive.
   All data files and all applications on your hard drive will be permanently deleted. When the recovery process is completed, Windows ME will be in your hard drive. You need to re-install any applications and recreate data files you have added since the purchase of your computer.

PLEASE back-up all your data files on other media before selecting this option since all files will be permanently deleted from the hard drive.

To access the Recovery functions you must change the BIOS settings of your computer to use the CD ROM drive as the 'First Boot Device'.

1. Switch on or reboot the computer.

2. Press the 'DEL' button several times and it should bring you into the BIOS setup screen.

3. Insert the Recovery CD into your CD-ROM Drive.

4. Your Motherboard BIOS:

• Use the [Up] and [Down] arrow keys to choose the item.
• Use the [PgUp] and [PgDn] keys to modify the highlighted item.
• For AMI BIOS choose 'Advanced CMOS Setup' and press 'Enter'.
• Highlight '1st Boot Device' and change the settings to 'CD-ROM'.
• Press 'ESC' to go back to Main Menu.
• Highlight 'Save Settings and Exit' and press 'Enter'.
• Press 'Y' to confirm saving of the settings and exit.

Your computer should reboot and boot from CDROM, please follow the on-screen instructions:

• After completing the recovery operation, please change the '1st Boot Device' to 'Floppy'.

• For Award BIOS choose 'Advanced BIOS Features' and press 'Enter'.

• Highlight 'First Boot Device' and change the settings to 'CD-ROM'.

• Press 'ESC' to go back to Main Menu.

• Highlight 'Save and Exit Setup' and press 'Enter'.

• Press 'Y' to confirm saving of the settings and exit.

Your computer should reboot and boot from CDROM, please follow the on-screen instructions.

After completing the recovery operation, please change the 'First Boot Device' to 'Floppy'.
